Rob Edwards and O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the team's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League season.

And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the club ownership.

The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton head coach - who played more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong candidate for the vacancy.

O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by the club in the previous winter.
