Barcelona Set to Play First Game at Upgraded Camp Nou on Saturday

Barcelona have announced their first game will take place at the renovated but unfinished Camp Nou over the weekend. Athletic Bilbao will visit Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish league two and a half years after they moved out so building work could begin.

“We’ve dreamed about the return. Now, it’s here. We’re back home. Back at Spotify Camp Nou.”

The stadium will not be at full capacity though over 45,000 attendees are permitted inside under the licence granted. Once fully finished, the Camp Nou is due to hold over 104,000 attendees, up from the previous 99,000. Barça announced completed upgrades featured a new players’ tunnel plus modern locker rooms.

Preparatory Events

The club conducted a fan-accessible workout at the Camp Nou in early November. The club said they were hoping for permission from Uefa to play their next home Champions League game versus the German side in December at the stadium. Their recent games have been held at the Olympic Stadium.
